Foot orthotics are sometimes helpful in alleviating many symptoms. These can include foot pain, leg pain, knee pain, and back pain. Orthotic supports come in many varieties, from off-the shelf "arch supports", which are often helpful and inexpensive, to custom-molded foot orthotics. Some problems require support or correction that is molded to the exact shape of the foot. This can be accomplished by heat-molding an orthotic directly to the person’s foot. Another common technique is for the practitioner to make plaster casts of a client’s feet, then send those casts to a lab, for fabrication of the orthotics
